Looking for ways to bring your team closer and foster better communication and collaboration? Team building sessions are a great way to achieve these goals. But let’s face it, you’ve seen the traditionally offered team building activities in Cheltenham all before. Yawn. What if we told you that your teams could participate in team building they’ve never tried before? Team building that’s silly, fun, and hilarious! That’s exactly why Laughter Spark was launched. Because we believe the power of comedy needn’t stay on stage and screen.
What is comedy team building?
Comedy team building offers a refreshing alternative to the same old traditional team building games. By infusing comedy and improv techniques, interactive activities and games are designed to foster better communication, collaboration, and creativity among team members. And the best part? You won’t have to break the bank on expensive venue hire, thrill-seeking days, or retreats to achieve these outcomes – you can bring Laughter Speak straight into your workplace.
Our comedy team building activities to pick from:
Improv Comedy Workshops
Improv comedy is a fantastic way to break down barriers, encourage collaboration, and build trust among team members. In this workshop, teams will learn the fundamentals of improv comedy, including techniques such as “yes, and,” and how to think on their feet. Employees will be challenged to think creatively and communicate… differently. Think: expressing themselves as Chewbacca or through mime. If you’re looking to reward your employees with a chance to let off steam, these workshops guarantee silliness!
Participants will:
- Learn the basics of improvised comedy
- Engage their imagination
- Breakdown communication barriers
- Practise being more spontaneous
- Try thinking outside the norm
- Build team trust and connection
- Shake off adult responsibilities and play!
Joke Writing Workshops
Help your employees unleash their wit and build their confidence as they learn the art of crafting jokes, from brainstorming ideas to refining the punchline. With guidance from a professional stand-up comedian, they’ll have the opportunity to write and workshop their own jokes, all while building communication and collaboration skills. A great way to encourage creative thinking and seeing things from a new perspective.
Participants will:
- Show off their funny side
- Learn how to craft a good joke
- Use their creativity
- Build team trust and connection
- Collaborate and test out new skills
Stand-up Comedy Experience Days
Reward your employees with a whole day spent learning the basics of stand-up comedy, from the different types of comedy one might use to the best way to hold a microphone. They’ll then have a go at writing their own short routine, with guidance and feedback from a professional, before taking to the stage to perform their routines in front of their peers. A fantastic way to encourage problem-solving, improve communication, and bond teams over laughter.
Participants will:
- Learn from a professional stand-up comedian
- Write & perform their first comedy routine
- Challenge themselves to do something new
- Make their peers laugh
- Bond and celebrate over the rest of their team taking to the stage
Making comedy team building work for your team: the questions you might have
Do teams need prior experience in comedy, improvisation, drama etc?
Definitely not! Your teams will be guided through the process and provide all the necessary encouragement, direction, and wit they need to make them feel comfortable. The only thing we ask is that participants come with an open mind & the willingness to relax and have fun! It’s why we recommend that workshops are made voluntary.
What about if people feel too shy to take part?
That’s ok. Not everyone is a natural-born performer, but we promise it doesn’t mean they won’t have fun. With comedy improv in particular, the role they take is up to them. There are plenty of opportunities to give suggestions and shape other team members’ interactions (rather than being silly themselves) or if employees don’t feel comfortable talking, mime is a funny art form of its own!

Benefits outside the workplace
In addition to being a fun and effective way to strengthen teamwork, comedy team building can also have positive effects on employee wellbeing. Studies have shown that laughter can reduce stress, boost mood, and is even a natural painkiller. By participating, employees can take a break from the daily grind and let loose, fostering a more positive work environment overall.
Plus, the skills they learn in the workshops, can be applied to their personal lives. So, not only will your team have a great time, but they’ll also come away with benefits that can improve their overall quality of life. They do say laughter is the best medicine, after all.
